Christmas '06. I'm taking a mulligan.

As the holidays rapidly approach it is time to give consideration to the things that nobody pays attention to. I'm speaking, of course, of Christmas cards and family newsletters.

The past few years I have rarely been home for Christmas and have had to create my own series of cards. As my life is still very much in transit I'm thinking of making my own card again this year, to send to people I rarely keep in contact with, just to let them know I haven't died yet.

Let's take last years Christmas card with my roommates.

Classic. Tasteful.

Or I could go with the year before.

Mall Santa with Big Borther. Very traditional.

There's the always fun, anthropomorphic "dress family pet as Santa Claus" pic.

Or the far more obligatory "excessive man-love with Uncle".

Okay, cards aside, there is the business of the family newsletter. I asked my Mom if she'd started writing it yet and she said "why don't you write it Mike?". I thought about it. Generally the family newsletter provides a brief synopsis of each family member and their accomplishments for that year. So as I reflected back on 2006 and my own accomplishments I began to realize why she asked me to write this thing. I think it's because she wouldn't know what to write. I HAVEN'T ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING!!! At least in previous newsletters I had exciting stories. I had dinner Sebastian Bach, I went to England, I held a job for a sustained period of time. But this year...? Shit, I don't want to write it either.

Here's a rough idea of what it might look like.

2006 Logsdon/French Christmas Newsletter!!! Back by popular demand!
This Year so much has happened to all of us.
John and Mike Logsdon completed a 16,000 mile bike trip from Alaska to Argentina raising 50,000 dollars for the National Brain Tumor Foundation.
Pete French bought a glass company in Denver and is now expanding the business to include remodeling bathrooms. He still cuts glass and kick ass!
Mike French didn't get herpes.

It's only November, so there's still time. Something exciting could still happen. My friend Dan taught me a new catch-phrase that I've been using religously. "FEED THE CHICKEN!". Actually you accompany the prhase with a little peck in somebody's hand instead of a high five. I use it all the time, and maybe, just maybe, by mid-December, all my "Feed the Chicken" virigns will have spread this new catch phrase all across the nation. I would become some weird pop-culture celebrity, like Max Hedroom, and appear as the correct answer in the Arts and Leisure Question "Who coined the phrase Feed The Chicken" in Trivial Pursuit: Early 2000's Edition.

Well, maybe I'll save that for next year. I think I'll just consider this a lost year and take a mulligan.

The following will be my card/letter for the year, as it summarizes everything I wish to share and remember about '06. Happy Holidays all.
