Ipod reunites me with Phil Collins, and I'm happy to say it's been long enough.

So, my Ipod and I have an understanding. When I put it on "shuffle" it knows that half of what I've uploaded onto it I don't want to hear. For example, I love my Steve Martin album "Let's Get Small", but I rarely listen to it. That said, occasionally my Ipod throws at me a blast from the past, like an old friend you haven't spoken to in ages. That friend was Phil Collins.

Let me start by saying, I've lost an interest in Phil Collins for nearly 20 years. I grew out of his music in the early 90's and thought he was totally lame, and then he did that Tarzan soundtrack which was waaaaay to Disney, and Phil and I had officially gone our separate ways (que Phil's song "Separate Ways"). But there was a time when I really liked Phil Collins. I owned a couple of his albums when I was in 4th grade, and I was a big fan of Genesis (he replaced Peter Gabriel as singer and drummer before he went solo). Also my mom was a fan so i used to listen to him on car rides all the time. So that's my Phil history. When I worked for Atlantic Records for a short time I even met him, but it was half-hearted because it came during my anti-Phil stage. We parted ways in the early 90's and aside from a chance meeting, have not been friends since...until today.

While riding on the subway to work I set the Ipod on shuffle and suddenly a track popped up that I hadn't heard in years. It was "In the air tonight" by Phil Collins off of the album "Serious Hits..." which I owned from way back when. I forgot that I really liked that song. It was like something out of a time capsule. I suddenly remembered when they used that song on an episode of Miami Vice which Phil guest starred in. That was cool! So I put on the album and let Phil take me on a journey back to the late 80's when I dug his stuff! "Another Day In Paradise", "Don't Lose My Number", "Take A Look At Me Now", "Take Me Home", and the super-gay "Suddio" which I am not ashamed to admit I did not shy away from (I did however turn the volume lower so the woman next to me couldn't identify what I was listening to).

I think it's safe to say enough time has passed, his Disney collaborations have been forgiven, and I can say I like Phil Collins again. Welcome back, it's been days! Now onto Hall and Oats, where the hell are you guys at?
